secondSight is a London-based progressive rock covers band. It was formed from the ashes of The Signals, a regular covers function band, when drummer Mike Lane and guitarist Norman Leader decided to stop playing the same old pub staples that every other band appeared to be doing and take on a new challenge. The result was a return to their musical roots - a shared love of 1970s progressive rock.
Mike & Norman quickly recruited keyboard wizard Julian Veasy, followed by Nick Loebner on bass and 12-string guitars. Singer Chris York, another refugee from the traditional pub covers circuit, joined the band in early 2010 to complete the line-up.
secondSight draws on a healthy vein of classic ‘70s prog rock material. Genesis and Pink Floyd are well represented. There are songs from Yes, King Crimson and Jethro Tull in their repertoire, as well as more recent material from Cardiacs and Radiohead. Don’t expect the band to recreate the records exactly or look like the originals, mind you – they’re not trying to be a tribute band or ‘lookalikes’.
During 2010 secondSight's lineup stabilised and they began gigging more frequently. Recently, they played at the Old Explorer in the West End and at the Grey Horse in Kingston - where they appeared three times in 2010, most recently returning as Friday night headliners. They completed a series of autumn dates at the Screamlounge in Croydon, where they played two sets - gripping their audience for over two hours of classic progressive rock numbers.
